Keeping Your Word

Living in society means constantly creating agreements with others. You coordinate schedules, make commitments, organize projects, and often, you simply give your word. By doing so, you contribute to the invisible foundation that supports human relationships: trust.

Because your word has value. Yet we often treat it as something flexible. We promise something and then change it when it becomes inconvenient, as if it were merely “a way of speaking.”

But every time you fail to keep a commitment, there are consequences you may not see. The other person may have organized their time, made decisions, or stopped doing something important because they were counting on you.

Keeping your commitments is not only about doing what you said you would do. It is also about recognizing that our actions have an impact on other people’s lives.

Because your word is not only what you say. It is what others can rely on to build, plan, and feel secure in a relationship with you.

Keeping your word is much more important than you think.
