In the Mirror

Relationships are like mirrors in which we learn to see ourselves. Through the way others treat us, we gradually build an image of who we are. If they make us feel fragile, we may begin to believe that we are. If they look at us as if we are “crazy” or wrong, we may start doubting our own perception.

Unfortunately, the closest mirrors are often the ones that have become the most distorted. It is as if the people we love had poured oil over the surface of the mirror, leaving us able to see only a distorted reflection of ourselves.

I believe that one of the goals of therapy is to offer a clear mirror. A space where, during those 45 minutes, within those four walls and through that attentive presence, a person can see themselves as they truly are. A place where they can discover parts of themselves that may never have been reflected in other mirrors, but that have always been there, waiting to be recognized and brought into the light.

The goal of this “game” is simple and, at the same time, profoundly difficult: to be oneself.

It sounds simple… but we look into mirror after mirror, again and again, and often we end up losing ourselves among countless reflections.

I hope that today you can find a clear mirror in which to look at yourself and finally recognize who you truly are.
